A wonderful collage edited by Antti who has compiled this memorial video , .,.....History will show that In 1966 a Finnish Man named Pauli Toivonen won the Monte Carlo Rally , 20 years later in 1986 his Son Henri Toivonen also won the Monte.......sadly Henri and his Co-Driver Sergio Cresto were killed whilst competing on the Tour De Corse when their Lancia crashed off a special stage and burst into flames.
The increasing popularity of Group B 4 wheel-drive , turbo-charged * super-cars * was to be the down fall of the sport as we knew it....3 spectators were killed when a Ford 200 collided with them on the Sintra stage in Portugal..a year earlier Toivonen's friend and Lancia team mate Attilio Bettega was also killed on the Corsica Rally...... The Governing body of Motorsport BANNED Group B in the interests of common sense and safety.
