U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke has been nominated as the next Ambassador to China. Born in the United States, Locke would be the first Chinese American for the job. At his nomination on Wednesday, Locke reiterated he would continue to push for the interests of the United States at his position in China.

President Barack Obama said Locke's background makes him the best choice for the new post.

Due to deep-rooted differences between the U.S. and China's ruling Communist Party, Locke is expected to face a grilling senate hearing on issues like trade and human rights before his nomination is confirmed.

Locke would be replacing outgoing Ambassador Jon Huntsman, who leaves at the end of April after resigning earlier this year.
