Kris Panday, the Canadian Consul General in Dubai, came out to the run and talked about its Canadian heritage.

[Kris Panday, Consul General of Canada], (male, English):
"I feel very proud as a Canadian that the example that this young man - Terry fox - set, has been adopted around the world. Something that started in Canada but then has been adopted and taken on by many many people in many countries around the world and it is making a major difference to people that suffer from cancer."

[Kris Panday, Consul General of Canada], (male, English):
"I was 18 years old when Terry Fox made his run half way across Canada in 1980 and for me as well as for many many Canadians it was a powerful example of determination, struggle and rising above yourself to fight for a cause and trying to make a contribution. And I know that many Canadians have seized upon this example of this young man running with only one leg, suffering from cancer - which eventually killed him - and have kept this example close to our hearts and have taken it wherever we have traveled".

According to the organizers, this year's charity run in the Ras Al Khaimah emirate raised more than 27 thousand U.S. dollars for cancer research.

The Terry Fox Runs in the United Arab Emirates are among the most active globally.

All the various Terry Fox Runs in the United Arab Emirates have brought in more than 2.1 million U.S. dollars in funds over the last 15 years for cancer research projects.
