Emma Watson may have been an internationally recognised actress since childhood but Vivienne Westwood has admitted on stage that until recently she had never heard of her.
The eccentric fashion legend was presenting Watson with an award for Style Icon at the Elle Style Awards but said that when she was approached by the show's organisers she said: "'Who is Emma Watson?"
Veteran designer Westwood took to the stage at the awards and ignored her set script, instead saying: "I was given this text about this woman and how amazing she is, and yesterday I was asked, 'This lady would like you to present it to her if she wins.' I didn't know who she was."
Watson reacted graciously to the news and was seen laughing in the audience. In her acceptance speech she said that the award had made her year.
The young actress has made an estimated £19 million thanks to the Harry Potter film series and has signed a deal to be the ambassador for Lancôme as well as modelling for fashion house Burberry.
