A zoo in Sydney, Australia shows off the newest addition to its gorilla family. It'll take 15 years for the little girl to be fully grown.

On Tuesday a new baby gorilla named Kipenzi made her public debut at Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia.

Born on January 15, Kipenzi weighs about 4.5 pounds and it will take 15 years before she is fully grown.

Kipenzi and her mother were kept from the public for a week to allow them time to bond.

Her father, a 33-year-old silverback gorilla, will now be retired to New Zealand and join a bachelor group of male gorillas, after producing a record of eight offspring.

Kipenzi, whose name means 'Precious One' in Swahili, belongs to the Western Lowland Gorilla species from Gabon in Africa and is the most widespread and numerous of all gorillas.

It's estimated there are only 90,000 Western Lowland gorillas in the wild, with numbers dwindling due to the destruction of their habitat, and the bush-meat trade in Africa.
