Farmers in the west of Venezuela are resisting plans by populist firebrand leader Hugo Chavez to seize their land and hand it over to flood victims. The measure, announced in December, would see more than 20,000 hectares of prime farmland delivered to thousands of people who lost their homes in the rains.
