North Korea's state television has broadcast footage of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il and his son and heir apparent Kim Jong Un.
The footage shows them being shown around various parts of Pyongyang, including a restaurant and a power plant in Heechon.
Kim Jong Il is believed to be grooming his young son Kim Jong Un to succeed him.
The documentary, called "The great leader Kim Jong Il carries out field guidance in various businesses", was reportedly filmed between September and November 2010.
It offers rare glimpses of Swiss-educated Jong Un, including footage of him laughing as he toured the different sites with his father.
The release of the documentary comes as the top US envoy on North Korea, Stephen Bosworth, visited South Korea to discuss possible nuclear disarmament talks with Pyongyang.
On Wednesday, Bosworth met with South Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan, and said that there remains a "very strong relationship" between the US and South Korea.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Il named his youngest son Kim Jong Un as four-star general in the North Korean military last September indicating that the son Kim is lined up to be the next successor.
The question of who would lead the nuclear-armed nation of 24 million had arisen after Kim Jong Il reportedly suffered a stroke in 2008.
