Nine men have been charged in a UK court, with conspiring in bomb attacks and preparing acts of terrorism. They have been remanded in custody.

Nine men have been charged with conspiracy to cause explosions, and preparing acts of terrorism.

They appeared in the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday.

According to the Press Association, suspects have been remanded in custody to appear at London's Old Bailey court on January 14th.

The nine were from London, the Welsh capital of Cardiff and the central English city of Stoke. The BBC reported that most of them were British, but there were also a small number of Bangladeshis.

A police statement said that between the 1st of October and 20th November they had been planning to cause -- quote -- "explosions of a nature likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property."

The statement added that when the men were arrested they had been researching and discussing potential targets and testing flammable, explosive materials.

The statement did not specify what the potential targets were.

The BBC said that they were linked to an investigation into al Qaeda-inspired attacks within Britain.
