South Korea has formed a committee to investigate North Korea's abductions during the Korean War. The South Korean government estimates more than 100-thousand were abducted during the war.

Amid tensions on the Korean peninsula, the South Korean government launched a fact-finding committee on Monday called the "National Committee on Investigating Abductions during the Korean War."

The government estimates more than 100,000 South Koreans were abducted during the war.

The South has requested the communist North free South Korean civilians and prisoners it has held since the end of the Korean War in 1953. The two countries are still technically at war, as a peace treaty was never signed.

The committee consists of 15 members, including the Unification, Foreign and Defense Ministers.
