In 2000 the Swedish government made the difficulty decisions who will suffer after the BRAC report. Due to heavy cutbacks, they decided to close the F10 wing before the 1 January 2003.

A few days before Christmas Eve in 2002, the last two Saab SK 60 trainers and the last JAS 39 Gripen take off and leave the F10 wing for the very last time, flying off to the F17 wing on the east coast. On New Year Eve 2002 the wing closed there gates for the last time, ending a 57 year era.
