Five people remain seriously injured after a coach overturned while leaving a motorway.

Seventeen people were taken to hospital after the Oxford Tube coach crashed just off the M40 near Thame, Oxfordshire at 10.55 on Saturday.

Four of the casualties had surgery for injuries including broken bones.

The double decker coach was travelling from London to Oxford and had turned off the motorway at junction 7, Thames Valley Police said. It was about half full, with 33 passengers and the driver.

Police said five people remained in hospital with serious injuries, though none were believed to be life threatening.

A police spokeswoman said: "Although the cause of the incident remains under investigation, officers do not believe that any other vehicle was involved."
