A new single by Romanian rock band Vama.

The song - called 'Sarkozy Versus Gypsy' - is about the French government's repatriation of Roma people from France to Romania.

Vama's singer says he got the idea for the song when he first saw Roma returning to Romania.

UPSOT: "Hey, hey, Sarkozy, why don't you like the Gypsies."

The band decided to focus on the absurdity of the situation, rather than the tragedy.

[Tudor Chirila, Singer, Vama Band]:
"We didn't go after the tragic aspect of deportation of expulsions. We went after the feeling of ridiculousness and absurdity of these measures which play a ping pong match with Gypsies, between France and Romania. But in fact, only France is playing ping pong. Romania is like a wall that Gypsies hit and go back."

Roma are a small minority in Romania - making up between four and eight percent of the country's population.

They often face prejudice at home, and many have migrated west in search of a better life - to places like France.

But a summer crack down on illegal Roma camps in France expelled thousands of Roma, sparking international controversy.
