Saw 3D has hacked its way to the top of the box office around the world. Showing the gore in an extra dimension no doubt helped, but could it also be down to the re-emergence of Carey Elwes?

After popping up in the first Saw movie in 2004, the actor revealed he decided to return to the seventh and final film in the franchise after a campaign by fans.

"They have been so passionate about bringing Dr Gordon back and I always felt that I should do them that honour," said Carey, 48.

"I've been asked by the filmmakers to come back in earlier episodes, but I thought I'd rather wait till the last one, so I can bookend it," he added.

The films, which revolve around infamous torturer Jigsaw, are now in the Guiness Book Of World Records as the most sucessful horror movie series of all time. But Carey insists those who worked on the first instalment had no idea it would take off.

"If I knew that, I would have invested in the films myself!

"We shot it for a million dollars, that was the most amount of money we could raise. We were stunned when the numbers came back," he said.
