Floods Kill Two in Jakarta, Indonesia

Heavy rain has caused major flooding in Indonesia’s capital. So far, two people have died from the floods.

Floods caused by torrential rains in Jakarta killed two people on Monday.

Local media reported that a woman was killed when she was swept away by floodwaters, and another man died when he walked into a fallen power line.

Residents are concerned with the floods.

Others think the government should do more to help.

The downpour engulfed parts of the city with up to two-and-a-half feet of water, causing traffic and travel chaos at the airport.

The rain stopped on Tuesday but areas remained underwater.

Home to 10 million people, Jakarta is often flooded in the rainy season and it can also be inundated by high tides in areas near the coast and in low-lying areas.
