And days of torrential rains are triggering massive flooding in southern China. Hainan province is copping the worst of it. More than 300 villages are affected and 140,000 people have been forced out of their homes.

China's island province of Hainan is being lashed by a second round of heavy rain this week.

In the last three days, the province has received an average of eight inches of rainfall, with some areas having twice that amount.

This is causing severe flooding and endangering many reservoirs in the area.

The torrential rain has affected nearly 1.3 million people, damaged 260 square miles of farmland and destroyed more than two thousand buildings.

State-run media reports that nearly 140,000 people have been forced to leave their homes.

Floods have swept through Hainan since the beginning of this month, after the worst rainstorms in nearly 50 years.

And to make matters worse, typhoon Megi, the strongest typhoon this year, is set to hit the island at the end of this week.
