With less than three weeks until the congressional mid-term elections, Barack Obama has travelled with US Vice President Joe Biden to campaign for Democratic Senate candidate, Chris Coons.
"I want everybody to be clear, there is no doubt this is a difficult election," said the US President. "It is difficult here, and it's difficult all across the country. And although I think Chris has so far run an extraordinary race, I don't want anybody here taking this for granted. This is a tough political environment."
Coons is running against tea party-backed Republican Christine O'Donnell and enjoys a big lead in recent polls. But the President told supporters not to take anything for granted.
"So I need all of you to keep on fighting," said Mr Obama. "I need all of you to knock on doors. I need all of you to talk to your neighbors. I need all of you to make phone calls. I need all of you to commit to vote for Chris Coons because if you are willing to step up to the plate, we won't just win this election, we're gonna restore our economy and rebuild our middle class and we will reclaim the American dream for this generation."
The contest between Coons and O'Donnell could decide whether Democrats keep control of the US Senate.
The President's trip to Delaware is part of campaign blitz aimed at raising money for Democrats and generating enthusiasm among the party's supporters.
