Prominent figures from around the world have gathered for the international Forum 2000 Conference in Prague. Former president of the Czech Republic Vaclav Havel hosts this 14th annual conference that will focus on pressing issues in today's society. This year's theme is "The World We Want to Live in."
Vaclav Havel set up the Forum 2000 Foundation 14 years ago with his friend Yohei Sakasawa from Japan.
Every year the foundation holds a conference in Prague with the same name.
Forum 2000 is a meeting place for philosophers, experts, politicians and activists from across the globe.
On the agenda are issues related to human rights and freedom and eco-friendly economies.
[Karel Kovanda, Director-General, European Commission External Relations]:
"I had the pleasure, honor of moderating one of the important panels this morning, I listened to a bit of panels, some of the other panels and, as I say, as usual it was full of interesting thoughts, interesting speakers and interesting information.
President Havel is known for his progressive views on these issues and the conference, too, follows these principles.
Side events focused on artistic expression of opinions. In collaboration with the British embassy, Zofin Palace exhibited pictures from the Copenhagen climate summit.
The Center for Central European Architecture organized the "City Gallery" exhibition for this conference.
Mrs. Zora Vondrackova is dedicated to helping the elderly in society. We asked her why she came to this event.
[Mrs. Zora Vondrackova, Attendee]:
"Although the Forum 2000 conference addresses different topics than those from my field, I still believe it can be inspiring, that's the reason I've come."
What is great about these conferences is that anyone who is interested can attend.
