March: The Vanished Army - composed by Kenneth Alford - arranged for orchestra by George Pollen. Frederick Joseph Ricketts (21st Feb 21 1881 - 15th May 1945) was the king of British march composers. Using the pen name Kenneth J. Alford, his marches were considered to be great examples of the art: cheerful, instantly recognizable tunes, inspiring the impulse to march, and full of originality. Ricketts’ constant use of the saxophone contributed largely to its permanent inclusion in military bands. He was considered the equal of the American John Philip Sousa.
