Zoos Exchange Red Pandas

This red panda has come all the way from Auckland Zoo in New Zealand to a zoo in India's state of West Bengal.

The seven-year-old female is part of an international breeding exchange program to conserve the threatened species.

And as part of the exchange program, a male red panda will be sent from this zoo in Darjeeling Hills to the Auckland Zoo on October 30.

Deforestation and illegal hunting are the primary reason behind their decreasing numbers worldwide.

According to media sources, only an estimated 2,500 red pandas live in the wild.
