As the partial freeze on settlement building in the West Bank was set to expire on Sunday, Israeli activists in Kiryat Netafim celebrated the end to the ten month moratorium by laying the foundations of a new neighbourhood. Israeli President Benyamin Netanyahu resisted US pressure to extend the freeze in move that could end the fledgling peace talks after his Palestinian counterpart Mahmud Abbas vowed to walk out on negotiations if construction resumed.
