It started out a decade ago with Murphy, a hedgehog hit by a car who died in the arms of Anne and Patrick Fingar. Since then, the pair have saved more than 1,000 hedgehogs in their sanctuary in northern France, joining the fight to protect the prickly creatures who die by the hundreds of thousands on Europe's roads.
