The Chinese regime says it needs to develop a new anti-aircraft carrier missile, according to an editorial in state-run newspaper, The Global Times.

The editorial says (quote):

"Since U.S. aircraft carrier battle groups in the Pacific constitute deterrence against China's strategic interests, China has to possess the capacity to counterbalance."

The United States and South Korea have been conducting joint military exercises in the Yellow Sea. Aircraft carrier the USS George Washington is also in the Western Pacific on its way to the Philippines on a visit to enhance ties with the U.S. ally.

U.S. analysts warn the Chinese regime could be developing a new version of its Dongfeng 21 missile. With a range of over 12 thousand miles, the missile could easily hit targets in international waters.

Many analysts view Taiwan as a possible flashpoint between the United States and China. And the U.S. Defense Department says the Chinese regime continues to build up military strength in the Taiwan Strait.
