He has been off the showbiz radar for some time, but Joaquin Phoenix is making his way back thanks to a new documentary.

The Oscar-nominated star, who grew a beard and announced his retirement from acting in 2008, is the subject of I'm Still Here.

The film is directed by his brother-in-law Casey Affleck and charts his bid to become a rapper.

It shows the 35-year-old as he turns up for his now infamous appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman in February 2009, where he appeared erratic and gave incoherent answers to questions about his final movie Two Lovers.

The documentary also features music mogul Diddy, who was said to be helping Phoenix with his debut record.

It is not yet known when the album will be released.
