The Boryeong Mud Festival, now in its 13th year, is one of the most popular summer festivals in South Korea. Koreans and foreigners alike flock to the seaside town to slather themselves in.....mud...and lots of it.
Don't feel like getting muddy? Too bad... those few reluctant to get dirty might find themselves being punished in the 'mud prison'.
You can even be decorated with a full body coating of colored mud.
Pottery lessons are great fun for kids and adults alike.
Mud wrestling is one of the most popular events.
[Ma-Abena Aduonum, U.S. Expatriate]:
"l love the mud wrestling. Many, many games you can have fun. Different games not the same things but as it's good time, mud wrestling is my favorite."
It's not so much about winning, as having fun.
Cosmetic products are also available to try out, made from this local wonder-mud. All of the mud at the festival is trucked in from a nearby location. It's said to contain germanium and other minerals that have wonderful benefits for your skin.
The festival has brought in over 2 million visitors this year, and has been named as one of the best summer festivals in Korea.
