Flash Flood Kills 58 People in Ladakh, Indian Kashmir

Dozens of people lost their lives after flooding in India's Ladakh region today. Rescue operations are now underway, as troops search for survivors.
Flash floods triggered by sudden and heavy rains, have killed at least 58 people in the Ladakh region of Indian Kashmir on Friday.

Soldiers were called in for rescue operations and they’ve recovered 50 bodies so far. Dozens are still missing.

Floods damaged houses and buildings in the town of Leh. Several telephone towers were also destroyed, cutting off all communication in the area.

The town’s airport has been submerged in water and flights have been cancelled.

The Ladakh region has been hit by unusually bad weather in the past few days, stranding many tourists who flock to the place for adventure sports.
