Northern China Battles Floods From Heavy Rains

Heavy rain continued to hit regions of northern China on Thursday.

Residents in China's northeastern Liaoning (pron: lyaow-ning) province's Xingcheng (pron: sing-chung) City evacuated their flooded homes.

At least seven reservoirs in nearby Jilin (pron: jee-lin) Province opened their flood gates as the heavy rain raised already swollen water levels.

Heavy rain fell in Liaoning, Heilongjiang (pron: hay-long-jyang), Inner Mongolia, Hebei (pron: her-bay), and Shandong (pron: shan-dong) on Thursday.

Floods have left at least more than a thousand dead and over six hundred missing in China so far this year.
