On Tuesday, more than a hundred students participated in a protest rally to demand the immediate halt of a government-sponsored offensive against Maoist rebels in Jharkhand.

[Anand, Student]:
"We are protesting against 'Operation Green Hunt' because the civilians are caught or killed. Their fight is only with the Maoists; then they should fight with the Maoists only. We have seen that they trouble the civilians and trap them and term them as Maoist supporters and take them to prison. They take away the poor and those who earn money and then we (families) face problems."

Locals say the police forces have camped at , closing them for months.

[Munna Paswan, Local]:
"Students are unable to attend classes. We are protesting so that the police do not camp there, and go elsewhere."

Maoist attacks have increased after the government launched the offensive.

It involves tens of thousands of police and paramilitary personnel trying to flush out the rebels from their jungle hideouts in central and eastern India.
