Today, Monday 26th July, Isle of Wight Railway Restoration has been named as a finalist in the 'Best Heritage Project Category' of the National Lottery Awards 2010. The awards recognise the amazing work being done by lottery-funded groups across the UK. The aim is to highlight the significant difference that projects - both large and small - make to communities everywhere and to celebrate the achievements of the people behind them.
The project restored Victorian and Edwardian passenger carriages and goods wagons, enabling residents and visitors to the Isle of Wight to take a trip back in time on the 100-year-old steam trains. It also made an effort to involve local people in the restoration and educational aspects of the railway.
