Chór Dana - Il pleut sur la route (Polish title: W tym cichym zakątku) (In This Peaceful Retreat) Odeon 1936 (Polish)
NOTE: This lovely French tango is performed by Chór Dana - the most popular Polish revellers group of the late 1920/1930s (established in 1929 by fine Polish composer, Władysław Daniłowski, nick: Dan). Original French text refers to a situation of someone who is waiting fot the lover, somewhere, in a rainy day. Polish text, however, describes a late afternoon over a park, which becomes a safe and peaceful corner for two lovers, making them feel safe and happy. Therefore, I illustrated this song with the idyllic photographs of palaces and manor houses of Polish gentry before 1939. These shots depict the world which does not exist anymore. These beautiful manors were in 99 % cases destroyed and their owners murdered, jailed or expelled first: by two occupiers of Poland after 1939 (Germans and Russians) and later by the communist government installed in Poland after 1945.
