British Transport Police are appealing for information following the violent assault of a young woman at a railway station in north London.

CCTV has been released in a bid to track down the man responsible for the incident, which happened at around 3.50pm on Sunday June 27.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Andy Rose, said: "This was a shocking assault that involved an act of extreme violence towards a young woman in broad daylight. I strongly urge anyone who thinks they can help identify the man pictured to come forward and speak to us."

The woman, 27, was targeted after she asked the man to stop tapping a beer bottle loudly on a bench next to her at Harrow & Wealdstone Station. Both then boarded a northbound London Overground service, with the man following the victim off the train at Carpenders Park Station.

The victim passed through the ticket barriers and was then followed by the man along the ramped footpath and then left to a set of stairs leading to a parade of shops.

As she reached the stairs, the man ran from behind her and punched her once in the face, which left her with a broken nose and serious facial bruising.

Anyone with information is asked to call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 and quote incident number 320 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
