Four British soldiers killed in 24 hours

A British serviceman has been killed in Afghanistan, bringing the number who have died in the country in a 24-hour period to four.


The Ministry of Defence said the soldier from the Royal Logistics Corps died in a blast in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand.


Lieutenant Colonel James Carr-Smith said: "It is with sadness I must inform you that a soldier from the Royal Logistic Corps, serving with the Counter Improvised Explosive Device task force, was killed this afternoon."


"He was a very brave and courageous man and he will be missed by us all. We will remember him."


The MoD has announced three other British military deaths in the last 24 hours. The death toll in the Afghan campaign since 2001 now stands at 322.


A soldier from the Royal Dragoon Guards was killed in a separate blast in the Nahr-e Saraj district, a marine from 40 Commando Royal Marines died in an explosion while on foot patrol in Sangin and an airman from the RAF Regiment died in a road accident near Camp Bastion.


Their families have been informed.
