The Japanese police force conducts an anti-terrorism drill on Tuesday ahead of the APEC summit in Yokohama this November.
More than a thousand city government employees and neighboring hotel workers joined 50 police officers during the drill in front of the Tokyo metropolitan government building.
In the mock terrorist-attack demonstration, two thuggish-looking men emerged from a parked car with a rifle before kidnapping a civilian and taking cover in a small shed.
Police officers with attack dogs entered the scene with bulletproof shields, as another team rappelled down the side of a building and arrested one of the mock-terrorists.

“The security for this APEC summit is the largest since the G8 Tokyo summit in Hokkaido. We'd like to put all of our resources towards protecting the people of the country.”
Moments later another attack-dog was released and jumped through the window of a parked car where the second mock terrorist was hiding.
The drill ended successfully as an explosive-disposal robot retrieved a simulated pipe bomb and carried it off the scene.
Police said they are also ready for the protests that have often turned violent in other countries.

"In summits overseas there have been protests numbering in the tens of thousands. As this summit is taking place in the city of Yokohama there's a chance that the same sort of protests will occur. We would like to respond appropriately to illegal demonstrations and make all efforts to minimize the impact upon people's livelihood."
The last annual APEC summit took place in Singapore.
