The first president of the United States made his post-politics fortune, in part, by producing rye whiskey on his now-famous Mount Vernon estate. Almost two centuries since the distillery burned to the ground, private industry has spent over two million dollars restoring Washington's original building to get the whiskey flowing again using the founding father's own recipe.
