Soldier killed in Afghanistan is named

A British soldier killed in Afghanistan on Friday has been named by the Ministry of Defence as Corporal Stephen Walker.


The Royal Marine, from 40 Commando Royal Marines, was injured in an explosion near Patrol Base Almas, in the Sangin area of Helmand Province.


Cpl Walker was on foot patrol with the Afghan national army when he was wounded.


The total number of British personnel killed in Afghanistan since operations began in 2001 now stands at 286.
