A British woman has been charged with the murder of her two children after she confessed in a Spanish court.

Lianne Smith said that she killed Rebecca, five, and 11-month-old Daniel by suffocating them by placing plastic bags over their heads.

A statement issued by the court suggests that she killed her children in full consciousness of her actions and acted without an accomplice.

Following the trial in Blanes, Smith has been sent into custody without bail in Girona and could face between 15 and 20 years in prison.
