Gordon Brown has pledged to play his part in Britain "having a strong, stable and principled government".
After winning his Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath seat, Mr Brown said he wanted that government to be able to lead Britain into "sustained recovery".
His comments came after Downing Street sources said the Prime Minister would try to form a coalition government to keep Labour in power if there's a hung Parliament.
Meanwhile Chancellor Alistair Darling held his seat in Edinburgh South West.
Earlier a TV exit poll predicted the Conservatives would form the largest party in the next parliament, but fall short of having an overall majority.
