Cameron Douglas, son of film star Michael and grandson of movie icon Kirk, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment.
He was arrested in a Manhattan hotel with large amounts of methamphtemine and heroin and charges with possession and intent to supply last July.
His father pleaded with the judge for leniancy on his son.
Citing a difficult childhood in the limelight of his family dynasty, Michael said: "I have some idea of the pressure of finding your own identity with a famous father, I'm not sure I can comprehend it with two generations to deal with."
Cameron's addiction to heroin and other drugs began when we was just 13-years-old. Having spent nearly a year in prison on remand his sentence is due to finish in 2014.
