'Focus Females' could decide election

The General Election could be swung by a new type of floating voter - the "Focus Female", according to an AA/Populus poll.

As many as 61 per cent of women, many of them Ford Focus drivers, have yet to decide which political party is the most motorist-friendly, the poll of nearly 15,000 AA members found.

In contrast, only 36 per cent of males polled have not yet made their minds up about who to vote for.

The poll found that 74 per cent of women reckoned motoring issues were quite or very important in determining who they voted for.

Women were found to be more concerned than men about the cost of motoring, drink-driving and drug-driving, and road safety.
