Russell Crowe has made his Walk of Fame star a family affair.

The Australian actor was accompanied by wife Danielle Spencer and his young sons at the ceremony outside the Kodak Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

Also in attendance in support of Crowe were late-night talk show host Jay Leno, DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, Universal Pictures CEO Ron Meyer, Australian actor Sam Worthington, producer Brian Grazer and director Ron Howard.

Crowe, who is the star and producer of the upcoming Robin Hood, said: "There's no place I would rather be, apart from with my family, than on a movie set on a feature film - particularly those first few days when the excitement and the freshness is still there."

He got choked up when he talked about receiving the honour in front of his wife and sons, saying: "Anyway, as I said, thanks for the privilege and I'll always be grateful for it. Cheers!"

Crowe had been invited to accept a star on the Walk of Fame three times before finally accepting. He said he simply did not feel comfortable yet with the honour.

"At first I didn't think I had done enough work to deserve it in a way, you know," he said. "But now I sort of got to the point where gee whiz if I don't say yes soon, they'll probably stop asking so I might as well get it done."

The 46-year-old actor's new film Robin Hood, directed by Gladiator helmer Ridley Scott, opens this year's Cannes Film Festival and is released on May 14. It is the first time the actor has got producer credit and he says he pushed himself physically for the role.
