Ukraine’s Former PM Explains Bribery Claims

Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko says that judges voted for an unconstitutional decision, because they were bribed to do so.

Tymoshenko spoke to the media outside the Prosecutor General’s Office in the Ukraine capital.

She had been summoned to the Office to explain her claims that politicians were putting pressure on judges to recognize the legitimacy of the country's current parliamentary coalition.

"After Yanukovich assumed the president's role, the constitutional court sharply changed their decision, upon his request, and changed their position."

At least 11 judges out of 18 at the Constitutional Court are said to be ready to support the ruling.

But that ruling clashes with an earlier ruling issued by the Court in 2008.

[Yulia Tymoshenko, Former Ukraine Prime Minister]: (Ukrainian, female)
"I warned people and politicians that in order for 11 judges to vote for an unconstitutional decision - pressure was applied, they were given money. A large corruption scheme is occurring and it's on the basis of corruption and intimidation that 11 judges voted for an unconstitutional decision which 'green lit' an illegal, unconstitutional coalition.”

The ruling is expected to allow skipping early parliamentary elections that would otherwise have to be called.
