He is bound to face endless comparisons with music legends including Stevie Wonder, but Craig David insists he is more than ready.

The British singer takes on several Motown classics on his fifth studio album, Signed Sealed Delivered.

"I'm excited," said the 28-year-old singer.

"It's a record I've been looking forward to doing for a little while now. It's a vocal performance record. It's not about me writing new songs, even though there are three new tracks on there."

The Slicker Than Your Average star's CD includes covers of I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Papa Was A Rolling Stone and the title track - Wonder's hit Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours).

Craig admits approaching a hit like this is not easy though.

"When you're singing that song, you've got to attack it in the same way that he would have on the original."

The Mobo award winner has sold over 13 million albums since first hitting the charts in 1999 with Re-Rewind.

Luckily he does not have to worry about how his latest efforts will go down with camp Wonder.

Craig revealed: "I did send it to Stevie through his manager, who came back and said that he loved For Once In My Life and Signed, Sealed, Delivered. He is an amazing artist who has crossed genres and has influenced so many people. So to know that he is feeling what I have done is a good look."
