Walking jewels: the beauty of beetles

Forty per cent of all described species of insect are beetles. They come in a broad array of different shapes, sizes and colours. With emeralds, electric blues and reds, their shimmering brilliance catches and excites the eye - so much so that in some cultures they are used for jewellery such as buttons and broaches.
