The Franklin Expedition was an ill-fated exploration of the Arctic, led by Captain Sir John Franklin in 1845. Franklin and 128 men from his expedition disappeared during their travels through an unnavigated section of the Northwest Passage. Despite the efforts of subsequent search expeditions, they were not rescued in time. Today, Franklin's lost expedition is the subject of numerous historic and artistic works.
