Movie buffs in India’s showbiz capital Mumbai got a glimpse of films from the country’s insurgency hit northeastern states at the Mumbai International Film festival.

The film festival will be screening 10 films from the India’s northeast.

[Chanoba Thiyam, Filmmaker from Northeast]:

“I don't know, maybe because people liked it. That's why they selected 10 films in the festival. For that I don't have a specific reason, why they choose that kind of films. May be we are kind of making good films.”

The films have impressed viewers in terms of subjects and treatment.

The variety of the films reflects the heterogeneous cultures of India's northeast.

[Nita Vajpayee, Movie-goer]:
“We do not know that area at all, so it is through the MIFF. MIFF is giving us a platform you know, through documentaries.”

The filmmakers of the trouble torn northeastern region toiled against assorted odds to screen their movies at the festival.

Northeastern region of India is home to several tribes projecting the most colorful cultural and musical heritage of India. Over the past two decades, separatist revolts in the northeast have been demanding autonomous rule among others.
