Five young Americans were brought hand-cuffed into a Pakistani court on Monday.
Police officials said emails of the suspects showed they had contacted the Taliban, and that the group had planned to use them for attacks in Pakistan.
Police also told the court that the five men were in contact with an al Qaeda operative.
The suspects deny the accusations saying they only want to give fellow Muslims financial and medical aid in Afghanistan.
They also deny any contact with al Qaeda or any other militant group.
Journalists were not allowed to cover the hearing, however a police official read out a statement.
[Aamir Khan, Police Official]:
"Today we presented them before the court. We will present them before the court again at the next hearing which has been set for February 2nd."
The students say they are being tortured by the police, chanting: "We're being tortured," as they left the court.
Police want the court to indict the men for violating Pakistan's penal code and anti-terrorism law.
The five men in their 20s, from the U.S. state of Virginia, were arrested last month in the city of Sargodha.
Again, the trial will resume on February 2nd.
