A thick fog that covered northern parts of India this week continues to linger. Normal life is disrupted as transportation services are delayed.
Normal life was thrown out of gear once again as fog continued to engulf the northern parts of India on Friday.
Several flights from New Delhi to other parts of the country were delayed, and some even cancelled due to poor visibility.
[Bikas Singh, Stranded Passenger]: (Hindi, Male)
"Because of the fog, our flight was diverted to Bombay. But the airline authorities have not given us any updates, nor are they cancelling our tickets."
Train services were also disrupted, as trains travelling to and from New Delhi were either cancelled or delayed.
Road traffic was moving at a snail’s pace.
[Mohan Singh, Resident]: (Punjabi, Male)
"We are facing a lot of difficulties. I have to drop my kids at school. And today, because of the fog, we could not see the next vehicle and we had to drive really slowly. Even the traffic lights are not visible and we have to drive really carefully to avoid any accidents.”
Visibility in New Delhi was about 160 feet.
The India Meteorological Department blamed the weather on western disturbances that caused snowfall in the hill states.
