Ski mountaineering - or backcountry skiing - is in vogue. More and more skiers and snowboarders look for new challenges, away from the pistes. A study by the Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research revealed less people die in avalanches than in the 1970's. (SF-swissinfo.ch)
