Police in India's western Mumbai city are already out in force to ensure revelers don’t get out of control and spoil the New Year’s party, event though it’s still two days away.

Traffic and violators will be carefully monitored on CCTV.

[Himanshu Roy, Joint Commissioner of Police, Mumbai]:
"We are going to deploy CCTV on a large scale so that we can monitor the crowd and monitor any issue which needs immediate attention. Besides this we will be coming down quite heavily on drinking and driving. Large numbers of squads will be deployed all over the city to ensure that speeding, drinking and driving and accidents that result from that kind of thing are prevented."

Mumbai police have devised a strategy to stop any anti-social behavior in the crowds.

[Himanshu Roy, Joint Commissioner of Police, Mumbai]:
"We will have women constables in plain clothes to act as a decoy and to trap these goondas [anti-social] elements. We also intend to start taking action against these goondas and mawalis [anti-social elements] and these elements right from the evening."

Police are expecting huge crowds to throng beaches and landmark spots like the Gateway of India.
