Trump had announced 25% tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada and a 10% tariff on Canadian energy resources. The tariff pause mirrors a similar agreement with Mexico, where President Claudia Sheinbaum pledged to deploy 10,000 soldiers to its northern border. Trump said the pause allows time to negotiate a final economic deal.
