A sinkhole has swallowed cars in a residential street today (27/1).
Broughton Road in South Shields collapsed before 5:30am, Northumbria Police said.
Several parked cars on the road entered the hole, although no-one is thought to have been injured.
Nearby properties have been evacuated as a precautionary measure while the damage is assessed.
